REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK

Redwood National Park, located in California, is home to the majestic and awe-inspiring sequoia trees. These towering giants can reach staggering heights of up to 379 feet, making them the tallest trees in the world. The park covers an expansive area of over 139,000 acres, preserving the natural beauty and habitat of these ancient trees. Walking through the park's dense forests, visitors can marvel at the sheer magnitude of these towering giants, their thick reddish-brown bark, and branches that seem to touch the sky. The tranquility and serenity of the surroundings offer a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Exploring Redwood National Park is a truly humbling experience that allows one to reconnect with nature and appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

The Wildlife

In addition to the magnificent sequoias, the park is also home to a diverse range of wildlife, including black bears, mountain lions, elk, sea lions, and deer. The elks are actually very easy to find, especially on Davison Road, and you might think that they will be afraid of cars and humans but not at all. You actually need to be careful while driving inside the park as they won't hesitate to cross the road.

It's always fun to see big animals but don't forget about the little ones, you can also spot some frogs, salmon, toads, salamanders, snakes, lizards, marbled murrelets, sparrows, blackbirds, wood warblers, bats, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, weasels, various bird species, and the famous banana slug.

Where to stay ?

It's important to know there aren't many lodgings inside the park so if you really want to sleep there, it might become expensive and you probably will have to make a reservation in advance as you will probably have to stay in one of the four campgrounds, which is perfect for camping. If you don't like camping, don't worry, you can try to book a cabin at Elk Meadow Cabins.

If you are not interested in staying inside the park or you are looking for a cheaper option, you can always go to Eureka or Crescent City to find a nice motel that wouldn't cost you too much. Besides, this is also a good opportunity to discover a city !

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Redwood National Park is spring and/or summer, depending on what you are looking for. In spring, the park is less crowded, which is why it's my favorite time to go: there aren't many people which means the trails are pretty much all yours. But in summer, the weather tends to be warmer.

Overall, the weather is alright all year long but in winter it tends to be rainier. Now don't forget that the giants' home is a very humid environment, therefore it can be a good destination to escape the heat during summer. .

THE CALIFORNIAN COAST

Although the name Redwoods tend to lead our minds towards the image of a forest, Redwoods National Park is located along the Californian coast.

It is a breathtaking sight to behold. Towering ancient redwood trees stand tall and proud along the rugged coastline, creating a unique and awe-inspiring landscape. The air is filled with the fresh scent of the ocean, as waves crash against the rocky shores. Strolling along the sandy beaches, one can feel the tranquility and serenity that this natural wonder offers. Welcome to the sea-lions' incredible home, if you're interested in exploring this particular part of the park, know that you can spend the night at the Gold Bluffs Beach Campground. Even if you don't plan on camping there, Gold Bluffs Beach is worth seeing.

What to do near Redwood National Park ?

Redwoods National Park has taken a significant step forward by including state parks within its boundaries. This expansion aims to enhance the protection and conservation efforts of these majestic redwood forests that you can find in California.

Therefore, you can find different attractions or scenic drives near Redwood National Park that I believe are very fun and interesting to do. For instance, if you're traveling with children it could be really fun to go to the Chandelier Tree in Leggett. Or if you want the perfect scenic drive, you should drive around the Avenue of Giants, a mesmerizing road. Moreover, you could simply go inside one of the giant sequoias ! If you're close to Santa Cruz, I suggest you go check out the Fremont Tree at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
